Congratulations to all the teams that competed at 'Smokin' on the Water' at Konicti Vista Casino this weekend. In my book all the teams scored '9's across the board. A lot of preparation and work went into each and every barbeque entry. A special shout out to the team of 'BLUQE' CUTIN" EDGE' who won Grand Champion. The four meat categories of chicken, ribs, pork and brisket were well represented. The 'Peoples Choice competition brought out some very creative entries.

The bacon explosion was a wonderful sausage loaf covered by an explosion of bacon. This was sold by the team of 'Big B's Down & Dirty BBQ' team.

The 'Peoples Choice' category is won by who sells the most taste tickets. Half of all money collected is given to a local charity This is were the teams can be creative. The four meat categories and anything else that the team cooks can be sold. Bacon seemed to be a common theme this year. Smoked Bacon covered Jalapeno poppers, Moink balls and the Bacon Explosion were a few of our favorites.

This event was a family affair. The young women pictured above was having a fantastic time selling chocolate covered bacon. You know who had to try this. This was a great weekend. We are looking forward to next year

I like the use of sales to determine the PC winner. No empty voting here, put your money where your mouth is, quite literally. Very cool that it funds charity too.

Unfortunately, as you mentioned earlier in the week, you can't do this (sales) in most venues anymore.

Love the bacon-wrapped things - wish I could have tried those! It all looks wonderful and wonderful fun, too.

We were at Catahoula this morning - where were you?

Zoomie, I am on vacation for the next two weeks. I will be sitting in the back wearing the beer helmet.

What fun.
I had a piece of bread with cheese, and some fruit.
Let us know if you come to the Marin market.

Cookiecrumb, We were at the Kelseyville farmers market yesterday morning before the competition. We bought the biggest Jalapenos ever and have them stuffed and wrapped right now. We stopped at your market on the way home today. It was 1130am and Grand Central Station Marin. I do not think I have ever seem so much beautiful produce and people ever!

Mexican Food for lunch?

I'm not a fan of the sales to determine PC. You buy it to try it, but that doesn't mean it was any good. I heard people looking for the side dishes to try, since all teams were offering the four KCBS food groups. A team can win PC just because they offered a crappy side and everyone tried it. In fact, one team was selling bottled water and I bought that for a ticket. Winning PC just because you're the only one selling a cold beverage on a hot day isn't right.

Mrs. Matthew, Good point about the water situation. That does not really seem fair. If it is any consolation half of all monies went to charity.

Zia, Zia, Zia, Zia, "sigh", One word; Alka-seltzer! (Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, Oh what a relief it is).

The sausage loaf made my mouth water. You could sell that on the corner like a drug...first taste free.
