CROCKPOT PULLED PORK



Simple, easy and tasty is our dish today. One does not always have 15 hours to smoke pork shoulder to create pulled pork. There is so much good daytime T.V. such as: “The View”, ‘Maury’, ‘Judge Judy’ and of course my favorite ‘Jerry Springer’ (I wonder if Jerry has received my letter to be on the show?) that an easy pulled pork recipe was welcome and necessary. The ingredient list is small as the directions. A pork shoulder, can of coke, a jar of salsa and some barbeque sauce is all she wrote.


The pork shoulder is trimmed of excess fat. It is placed in a crock pot with the can of coke poured over the top and set on high. Four hours later the pork is removed. Remove all the liquid from the pot. Shred the pork with a fork and place back into crock pot. Then add salsa and barbeque sauce to cook for 1 more hour. I told you this was easy. We served ours juicy and tender pork over rice and accompanied it with home made Cole slaw. We were impressed how simple, easy and tasty this pork turned out. No way will it replace pork smoked low and slow but with our busy daytime hours this was a welcome dish.

My instinct would be to save the goozle for reuse, but perhaps the Coke had done it's work by then. I'm going to make this - do you have a recommendation for barbecue sauce that's not too heavy on the fake smoke?

For those of us who don't have a crock-pot how would I do this with a cast iron kettle and an oven? Sounds tasty. I gotta find a good crock pot, the ones we have used in the past didn't cook low enough, any ideas?

Zoomie, Not all bbq sauces use liquid smoke. I suggest you read the labels. There are hundreds of different sauces and I like a lot of them. We used a sauce from Buen Apetito Waterford Maine for this recipe. Good Luck.

Toons A dutch oven is perfect. Try it in a 350 degree oven. The cooking times will probably vary.

I know this is sacrilegious but my daughter turned me on to a recipe that uses pork loin instead of pork butt.It is cooked slow in crockpot and then pulled.It is less fat but remarkably tender.I will be trying it out soon. Happy blogging!

cookiecrumb, A little sweet. The Cole slaw cuts that. I like that you empty all the fat and coke before the next step. A smoker will remove all that fat too. This was too easy.

Greg, I wish you luck. Fat is flavor. The fat was removed and replaced with salsa and bbq sauce. Let us know how it turns out.

Now this is something I could make! Sounds delicious ChileB. Gosh, I've never seen a photo of your head, If you're on Jerry Springer, will you let them film you neck up?

Lea Ann, It is not a problem of a head shot but I have a face made for radio. My body is a bacon eating, meat grinding machine. I am in shape for cheesecake consumption and you can use your bacon imagination. I have run the a 4 yard sprint between commercials. Ms. Goofy is my hand off women and takes care of me when I am winded. Go Raiders!

Chris, I draw the line there. Crock pot pulled pork was a stretch. I actually did it for a review which will be coming up in a couple of days.
