SPEARS OF SPRING

It is raining cats and dogs goes the saying. We have little glimmers of sunshine, like this past weekend. Spring is just around the corner. Locally grown asparagus is here and 'Boy O Boy' am I happy. Asparagus could be a new meat group as far as I am concerned. Steamed, boiled, grilled, and even raw is my favorite way to cook these green shafts of flavor. With Asparagus comes the "Asparagus Festival'. This is a must do event in the Chilebrown household. We are looking forward to seeing Joey 'Jaws' Chestunut' reclaim his title as the 'World Championship Deep Fried Asparagus Eating Champion'. We cannot wait.

We went one year and the highlight was seeing the Budweiser Clydesdales up close. Magnificent! And buying a box of asparagus. Also magnificent.

Greg, Take a trip to Stockton and have your fill. If you do not want to travel try my batter recipe.(Deep Fried White Castle Cheeseburger post).

Zoomie, We always look forward to seeing Martin Yan. Ms. Goofy is friends with Aspara Gus!

Cranky and I went to the First Ever Gilroy Garlic Festival. It was so pathetic, like a Boy Scout Camp-O-Ree. Still, we got the general idea, and we get bragging rights.
I'd probably like the 'spare-gus thing, but I'm afraid Cranky is finished with food festivals.

cookiecrumb, How about a food festival at your house? We could have Asparagus from Chris. You did say you have bow ties from Narci. That would count as the celebrity Chef. Just a thought.

I think we should, CB! Wait till the weather warms a bit.
What's our theme?
(I can't believe you remember the bow ties.)

cookiecrumb, How about "Only in Marin", local ingredients only. Stockton (Asparagus) is 97 miles from Marin.

My dear wife would certainly agree with you on asparagus. I like it, but she LOVES it. Ours won't be up for almost another month, but it'll be a feature on the grill when we get it.

food-fire, You actually have a crop. Bully for you. I am jealous. I will eat Asparagus almost everyday for the next month.

I love asparagus and Stockton fried asparagus is one of my favorite appetizers of all time.

Most of our clients also ask asparagus recipes as appetizers. Good thing that our chef knows many of delightful asparagus recipes.
