MEAT ADVENTURE (MARTINDALE’S QUALITY MEATS & DELI)

A journey in search of new meat markets brings us to the Northern California, Santa Rosa area. We are visiting two meat markets that we have not explored. Today’s ‘Meat Adventure’ will bring us to ‘Martindale’s Quality Meats & Deli’. Martindale’s is located on the edge of town in small strip mall. Once inside this meat palace you will experience a full service protein excursion. They sell award winning Hams, Bacon, and Smoked Sausage. In fact their plaques and trophies are on display for the viewing. There is a selection of pre-marinated tri-tips with several different flavors. Stuffed pork chops, sausages and various roasts are displayed in the vast meat cases. A full service deli will make and create your sandwich desires.

One meat roast that I could not take my eyes off was a two and one half pound bone in rib eye. This ‘Cowboy Steak’ was beckoning me for purchase. Martindale’s has house cured bacon which is my usual bellwether of meat market excellence. Alas, only sliced was available, so only a pound was procured. Slab bacon is our preferred choice so a return trip may be necessary to perform a ‘Bacon Revue”. Some house made sausages with the Cowboy steak were piled into the cart and a Christmas poem came forth; “With the sleigh full of meat, and Chilebrown too, Now Dash Away! Dash Away! Dash Away All!”

This ‘Cowboy Steak’ was seasoned with salt and pepper only. A hot mesquite fire transformed this so called ‘Cowboy Steak’ into a ‘Mini Prime Rib’ roast. This steak was fork tender and had beefy flavor goodness. Ms. Goofy and I shared it and still had enough for a late night sandwich. I cannot wait to try the rest of our Christmas haul. Next up is “Willowside Meats Inc.”

How in the world do you barbecue in weather like this?

There really isn't anything like a good meat market... we are fortunate in that we have a couple nearby that are quite good. No idea if they cure their own bacon.
Ps: Zio has been known to grill in sleet ;-)

Zoomie, When there is a will there is a way.

Zia, I am willing to bet you can find meat treasures in your neck of the woods. Whats a little sleet?

That steak looks so good! I wish they were closer to me. I went there once and ordered twenty sandwiches for my sons soccer team playing a tournament in Windsor.I brought home a couple steaks in our cooler. Like butter.

Greg, We were very pleased with our Cowboy steak. We are are a little over an hour away. We go to the farmers market, Williebirds and now Willowside. It is a fun little excursion.
