Dutch Oven Gathering (Dog) was on the ticket today. This was a gathering of food enthusiasts and a couple of food freaks. Is there a difference? It was held at the Meathenge Labs. It was a beautiful day in Richmond, California. The thermometer was hovering around 80 degrees. We were gathered around the heated cast iron vessel and the designated smoker to practice for the Rendezvous festival next month. There were some serious food critics present. Cookiecrumb, Zoomie, Mad Meat Genius, Pluto Demoted,. Meathenge and last but not least the defunct and Funky The 5 Pints. What a crowd. One slip and you are in blogger purgatory. Everybody survived and returned to the abode with bellys full of smoked meats, vegetables, bacon and dutch oven goodness. It was a perfect afternoon. Thanks Guy!

Nobody slipped! It was awesome. Beyond awesome. I'm so glad all you other people can cook, because I just sat there sipping Bud and nibbling the most awesome food.
A tip of my hat to the chefs, all of whom were fabulous! The chicken, the bacon, the tri-tip, the sliders, the ribs, the walnut cranberry bread... all memorable!
How do you like the Volcano under the CO?
Does it get the bottom of the CO hotter than setting it over a flat bed of coals?
I use bricks and small pieces of wood to get mine hot enough to really sear.
Hey Greg, I really like the Volcano. I use it in competition and at home all the time. It is so much more efficient and the key, consistent. I have had this one for a long time. It may be time to get another.
To answer your second question, Yes and with less charcoal.
Oh man, it was a great day indeed. We're going to have to do this more often, me thinks.
